It seems that there are infinite number of scientific problems to tackle and so an infinite number of paths a researcher can follow. Consequently, there is no single expert, textbook, course or a university programme that can teach you everything you need to become a great scientist. If you want to be successful you need to find your own way of acquiring knowledge and skills that you will require to answer your particular scientific questions (some of which you might not even know at this point in time). We can support you, but your stamina and ability to self-educate will be essential. These qualities distinguish true leaders from the followers and the aim of the XDF Programme is to train future leaders in Quantitative Biomedicine.

Self-directed learning (SDL) is an instructional strategy where the students, with guidance from the teacher, decide what and how they will learn. It can be done individually or with group learning, but the overall concept is that students take ownership of their learning.
